History
Sankara Eye Foundation Europe was born out of the drive of a handful of individuals based in London in 2005. The key shared vision is to support the excellent work being done by Sankara Eye Care Institutions (SECI) in India by harnessing support in the form of gift and donations to set up new eye hospitals in India as well as contribute to the ongoing running of existing ones.
All work in the UK is entirely done by non-paid local volunteers who donate their time for the larger cause. So, you can be assured that any surplus from monetary contributions that you make goes directly to SECI in India who maximise the benefit out of the same through quality eye care for the needy.
SECI currently receives on an average a pair of eyes daily and has performed over 600,000 surgeries so far. Presently around 500 free eye surgeries are being performed every day. The eye banks at SECI, Coimbatore, India, is recognised as a model eye bank by the Government of India.
